The guitarist and the drummer answered evasively to journalists’ questions, saying ’who knows, time in any case has not yet come’. But after a couple of years it was time for a regular compilation of rocks, with which Brian had decided to show that Queen were the first mainland rock group, and only then come the rest. Rocks had not made such a stunning impression whereas, a selection of songs would certainly do better. Of course, it was no secret that May was the major supplier of hard rock material.
And then May and Taylor in collaboration with the English comedy author Ben Elton and Robert De Niro started a project, which, some think, turned a new and bright leaf in the history of the group, while others, on the contrary, consider it the greatest profanity of all times. What we are talking about here is the musical We Will Rock You. There is nothing overtly wrong with this musical – a high quality performance, with a number of productions in other countries, a safe (pedestrian and devoid of surprises) selection of songs.The key image itself – the acquisition of a guitar as a symbol of freedom – ties in with the idea of classical rock and testifies that Brian and Roger knew what they were doing.

Brian’s solo career

Brian’s solo career was more than hopeful: his album Back to the Light, released in 1991 became a bestseller,especially the two singles inside wich made it to the British chart – Driven By You and Too Much Love Will Kill You –. The success prompted May to go on a tour, and in the following year he did that– The Brian May Band live at the Brixton Academy.
Roger too did not idle around but released the nice solo album Happiness.
However, life outside the alluring Queen brand gradually became difficult for the “orphaned” musicians. But it was in 1995 that,what a couple of years ago fans of the group throughout the world did not even dare to dream of, became reality – a new Queen’s album, named after one of Freddie’s solo repertoire songs Made In Heaven. For this project – a very rare case, Brian and Roger managed to involve John Deacon. Looking ahead, we must say that consistent in his statements and actions John half-heartedly applied himself to any form of resurrection of the group Queen without Freddie Mercury, but this was a special case.
In the last months of his life Freddy, feeling hopelessly ill, begged his colleagues to spend together as much time as possible.

Made with heart and love, the album was enthusiastically accepted by fans around the world.

Freddie’s life ended at the end of November 1991, and this automatically put an end to the group, whose frontman he was. At least 17 years after that, “Queen” were unanimous in their decision to terminate a joint musical activity. The question of replacing Freddie did not even arise. But time heals, and today we have quite a successful touring band made up of Queen + Paul Rogers. Indian origins

Freddie Mercury is the first British rock star to have Indian origins. This fact and his sexual orientation are two aspects of his deliberately cryptic short life. He was born on September 3, 1946 in Zanzibar on the east coast of Africa, but his parents were Parsis from Gujarat. Subsequently, Mercury often talked about their Persian roots, but the Parsis were forced to leave Persia a thousand years ago. They landed on the coast of Gujarat and settled down in the city with the largest population – Bombay. Any Parsi can follow his or her ancestry back to Gujarat.Encyclopedia Britannica gives the following information about the Parsis:
“The representatives of this nation are characterized by yellowish-brown skin, aquiline nose, bright black eyes,a sharp chin, heavy brow ridges, thick lips. Men usually wear a little twisted mustache. “Whatever it is,it surely reminds us of Freddie. One of the famous followers of the Zaratustra cult practised by the Parsis was the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Freddie’s father’s family name Bulsara actually derived from the name of a little village Bulsara (north of Bombay and south of Ahmedabad) in which he grew up. In this province there has always been a strong tendency to emigrate. There were a lot more Indians that emigrated from Gujarat than any other area of the subcontinent. Bomi and his wife Jer settled in Zanzibar, where Bomi began working as cashier in the Supreme Court. He and Jer, from whom Freddie inherited his great physique and protruding teeth called him Farrokh. Kashmir, Freddie’s sister, was born six years later.

The handsome drummer of the band, Roger, has never had any problems attracting women and fame has not diminished his chances. Who is he to say no? Known for his sophisticated compositions, his razor sharp wit,the bizarre names given to his children and his habit of wearing sunglasses on stage, Roger knows just how to be recognized and how to make women swoon. Roger also had the necessary falsetto to be added to the high-pitched harmonies of Queen.
Although a bit shy, Roger is nevertheless a colorful figure in the group. Then it was no surprise that he and Freddie were the closest two members of the group and often sat giggling in a corner of the studio .
Roger has four children, two with his first and two with his second wife with whom he lives to this day.

Writing songs:

Roger was never as “prolific” an author as Brian or Freddie – his compositions are generally limited to one or two songs in an album. However, quality was extremely high and the songs were very well accepted.
Roger’s style went through two distinct stages. In the 70s his songs are “good old heavy metal songs,” which he sings himself. And regardless of the fact that they are very popular, none of them is single. Starting with Modern Times Rock ‘n Roll (1973), and we coming to truly classic I’m In Love With My Car (1975), Fight From The Inside (1977) and Rock It (1980), his songs are fun to listen to,well-composed and talented. And then, in 1984. with his hit Radio Ga Ga,he rose to the class of Freddie and Brian.
His compositions from the 80s along with his solo career, which began in 1981, have attracted more comments than before. Even in his earlier songs like More Of That Jazz (1978), there is a feeling of disillusionment, then come Action This Day (1982), Heaven For Everyone (1988) and The Also Rans (1991).
Roger has some solid hits in the 80s and 90s. Radio Ga Ga reached first place in 19 countries, A Kind Of Magic (1986) reached the top 35. Simultaneously Innuendo (1991) and These Are The Days Of Our Lives (1991) were No. 1 in England. While continuing his solo career, his biggest hit so far is Nazis 1994 which reached number 22.

It is sad that when you run a search in Google you see how people know and listen to only the most popular songs by Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga and so on. On the one hand this is absolutely normal – few people reach further than ’The Best’ of a musician.On the other,the greatest musical achievements of Queen are so numerous that it would be difficult to make a selection of the sort ’The Best of Queen’, and then they can hardly fit even on 5 CD-ROMs.
Here we give examples of the music of Queen, remaining out of the scope of attention of the average listener and less influenced by mass popular songs. Let us hear the second song from Queen’s album A Day At The Races (1976), which can literally “take our breath away”.

Brian May and astronomy

Guitarist Brian May wrote a dissertation on astronomy.
In 1971, the guitarist of Queen abandoned his academic career and devoted himself to the group that he founded with the late Freddie Mercury. Today, he is coauthor of the book “The blast! Complete history of the universe.

The British rock musician Brian May wrote a doctoral thesis in astronomy.

Scientific work on “Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud” was left unfinished and has been gathering dust in the attic for 36 years ,since 1971.
Then the guitarist of Queen abandoned his academic career and devoted himself to the group that he founded with Freddie Mercury.

His defense in Imperial College is scheduled for August 23 and reminds us that the 60-year-old Mae (BrianMay.com) already has a degree in physics from London University.

The musician intends to organize a concert for the opening of a new telescope in the astronomical observatory at La Palma in the Canary Islands, where the work on the study of stellar dust was completed last month.
He received the title of honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter, south-east England, and recently wrote a book about the Big Bang and the evolution of the universe with two other British astronomers.

Recently, “Bang! – The Complete History of the Universe” was translated into Bulgarian and published by Ciela titled “Blast! Complete History of the Universe”.

Co-authors of the luxury edition were Sir Patrick Moore and Chris Lintat who host the popular astronomical program on BBC “Sky At Night”.

It began to be aired in 1957, shortly before the launch ?f the first artificial satellite of our planet.

John Deacon

Bass guitar, acoustic guitars, and absolutely no vocals!

The quiet member of the group. He stood on the right side of Freddie and played bass guitar without standing out, while others gave their flamboyant performances. It seems John managed to have the best of both worlds – the thrills of all sorts of awards on the one hand and some degree of anonymi ty on the other. John is probably the least popular Queen member and the last to have joined it. However, his contribution should not be underestimated – after he joined Queen shot up to the top immediately. He is serious, stable and practical, not a man of many words, but with unforgettable rhythm and ambitions which lead him to the top of rock music.
John married his longtime girlfriend Veronica Tetslaf in 1974 and has been with her till this day. They have six children!

Writing songs:

John’s contribution rarely exceeded one or two songs per album, but as with Roger, the quality is very high. He wrote several hits including the ground-breaking hit Another One Bites The Dust (1980).
John’s style, like Roger’s underwent two clear phases. In the 70s he followed The Beatles pop style, as illustrated by his first contribution,Misfire (1974), followed by You’re My Best Friend (1975), which makes itt o the top ten, You And I (1976), Spread Your Wings (1977), If You Can’t Beat Them (1978), perhaps the closest to rock that he has reached ,and Need Your Loving Tonight (1980).
In the ’80s his style is closer to funk because bass prevails as an instrument and rhythm. Starting with Another One Bites The Dust, he teamed up with Freddie and made songs like Cool Cat (1982), Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (1986) My Baby Does Me (1989).
Today John is retired in any sense. He never made a solo career as the other three – perhaps because he can not sing a note, as he said.

The “Best Single” nomination

Queen received “Ivor Novello” in the “Best Single” nomination for “These Are The Days Of Our Lives”. A double video was released for Christmas “The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert”. All proceeds from the sale of the video were paid into the “Mercury Phoenix Trust” – a fund, which collected funds from the concert and sent them to help AIDS and HIV-positive patients.
In November of that year was completed something on which Queen had worked on even as early as in 1991. Brian, Roger and John released a long-awaited album “MADE IN HEAVEN”. For many, this was the final chord in the era of Queen, since it was announced that the album is the last one. In spring 1997 Queen again received “Ivor Novello” in the category “Best Song” for “Too Much Love Will Kill You”.
After Freddie’s death, George Michael, the group «Five» and Robbie Williams acted as Queen soloists,at different performances and recordings. But the most successful alliance was with Paul Rodgers – representative of blues-rock. The project was called «Queen Paul Rodgers. Return of the Champions ». The musicians went on tour, singing traditional «Queen» songs and songs of Paul Rodgers, and attracted a decent audience. Meanwhile, Deacon refused to participate in the new composition. In 2002, in London’s Dominion Theater was the premiere of a musical dedicated to Freddie, under the title «We will rock you». The basis of this production was the Queen song,later followed by its national variations in Spain, the USA, Germany, Russia and Japan. A year later, close to the Dominion, yet another monument to Freddie was unveiled. Its height – 8 feet.
In 2006, Brian said that a new studio album with Paul Rodgers will be recorded. On New Year’s Eve in 2007 a single was released, Say it’s not true, which was written by Taylor. In concert, the song had already been performed. In the UK chart it reached 90 th position.
In 2008, the group organized a new tour. They opened with a charity performance in Kharkiv. The concert, entitled «Life must go on!», which was organized by the ANTI AIDS Foundation, was held on September 12 in Freedom Square, the largest gathering in history with an audience of 350 thousand people. The musicians played 28 tracks. Entrance to the concert was free, so the musicians did not receive royalties for the performance, and only the basic expenses of organizing and holding the concert were covered.
