The Magic Years
Ont he 9 August 1986 ,on a specially painted “Magic helicopter”, the group arrived at Knebworth Park, where they gave the last concert from the “Magic Tour”. During the whole tour this was the biggest concert – over 120,000 people. During this tour of Europe with all the concerts it gave Queen reached out to more than 1 million people, in Britain alone – more than 400 000.
In the same year, “EMI” released on CD all the Queen albums. This was the first case, when the full collection of albums was released at the same time. In winter 1915 was released the 15th album of Queen, which was recorded at the same concert. In the UK charts “LIVE MAGIC” came under number 3. On the 13th December at nine in the morning the premiere of “Live In Budapest” – a film-concert about Queen took place in Budapest, to a complete sell-out to all 9 shows, held on this day. Then the movie came to 7 sessions a day during the week. During 1986 the number of Queen’s albums sold in Britain alone amounted to 1,774,991.
In November 1987, a documentary trilogy, “The Magic Years”was released. Its creators, Rudi Dolezal and Hannes Rossaker,a producer-director team from Australia, were together with the Queen during the whole “Magic Tour” in Europe. They were filming the musicians absolutely everywhere: on the stage, on vacation, behind the stage. After that Rudy and Hannes reviewed archive footage of concerts, video clips and interviews, and then they interviewed the band, their fans, friends, and various “stars”. “The Magic Years” has been awarded numerous awards, including the famous American “silver screen” – The world’s largest film and television festival, as well as “IMMC” at the Montreux TV Festival “Golden Rose”. Furthermore, in 1987, the musicians got a prestigious “Ivor Novello” for their “Outstanding Contribution to British Music”
