Live Aid

On 13th April 1985 for the first time the musicians decided to sing in New Zealand. It is noteworthy that when the group arrived there, they saw an anti-apartheid demontration. The concert was held in Auckland at the Mount Smart stadium. In the same concert came the “Spandau Ballet” with soloist Tony Hadley. He was so eager to see the performance of Queen, that he specially flew ifrom Australia, where his group toured. During the encores, he even joined Queen. In April the same year the band was on their Australian tour. However, not without problems. For example, the performance in Melbourne passed generally without a lighting system, because the entire computer system, which was responsible for lighting failed. In addition, during the tour it was continuously raining. Shortly after this eventful tour in Australia the group flew to Japan. Their concert in the “Olympic pool”in Tokyo was filmed by “NHK” to be shown on television in Japan.

On 13th July 1985 it became a symbol of the global campaign “Live Aid”, which was held at Wembley (London) and in Philadelphia. Queen was one of those groups which performed for 20 minutes. The whole world watched them. Both the press and the public unanimously recognized Queen as a group, which eclipsed absolutely everyone. For Queen this event was significant: shortly before this the musicians had decided to rest for some time , but this success gave them new enthusiasm and strength. The result of this upsurge of creative forces is the song “One Vision”.
